Women and Girls Taster Sessions

Women and girls are under represented in sports, including wakeboarding and waterskiing. Our data shows a stark gender gap, with more than two-thirds of participants being male. British Water Ski & Wakeboard is focussed on ensuring our sport is accessible for all and providing opportunities for more individuals to enjoy our sport. That's why we're launching this inclusive campaign to make sure everyone feels welcome in our sport.

Let's face the facts
How we are trying to make a change

BWSW is actively collaborating with affiliated and accredited waterski, wakeboard, and cable clubs and centres across the UK to launch a series of taster sessions specifically for women and girls. This initiative aims to encourage more female participation in these exhilarating water sports. By offering these sessions around the country, BWSW intends to make these activities more accessible and less intimidating, hoping to inspire a new generation of woman and girls to enjoy our sport. Working with our clubs we are nurturing a supportive community where women and girls can learn, improve, and enjoy these dynamic sports in a welcoming environment.

Water skiing and wakeboarding are exhilarating surface watersports where participants are towed across the water by either a boat or a cable system. These activities serve as both a fun recreational pastime and a competitive sport, although the majority of enthusiasts participate primarily for enjoyment and physical fitness. The sports encompass various disciplines, including traditional two-ski water skiing, slalom skiing on a single ski, wakeboarding, wakesurfing, kneeboarding, and even the challenging barefoot skiing. Each form offers a unique challenge and appeals to a wide range of skills and preferences, making these water-sports accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages and abilities.

Waterskiing and wakeboarding are sports that truly offer something for everyone, whether you're looking to meet new people, try something new, learn a skill, or enhance your existing abilities in waterskiing or wakeboarding. If this sparks your interest, the best first step is to find your nearest club or centre. Many clubs offer taster sessions designed to give beginners a feel for the sport in a friendly and supportive environment. These sessions are a fantastic opportunity to dip your toes into the waters of these dynamic sports, under the guidance of experienced instructors. So, don’t hesitate—locate your closest waterskiing or wakeboarding club and book a taster session today to start your adventure on the water!
